Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment

The Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment provides learners with an essential foundation in relevant matters of health and safety. It is suitable for individuals wanting to work in the construction industry and those already employed in the industry seeking to renew their knowledge in this area. The qualification pre-supposes no former knowledge on the part of those who aim to attain it. Learners will come from diverse educational and employment backgrounds. The CSCS Green Card Individuals may submit an application for the CSCS Green Card by passing both the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification and CITB’s Operatives Health, Safety and Environment test within two years of applying for a new card.
The Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment resides within the national Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The RQF largely replaces the previous qualifications system, the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The RQF is regulated by Qualifications Wales, Ofqual (England) and CCEA (Northern Ireland).
Introduction
This one-day course is designed to aid the understanding of potential hazards the construction worker may face on site. It provides a practical summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues. It identifies the delegate’s responsibilities for looking after themselves and others, outlines the employer’s duties and explains what should be done if the worker thinks that anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk.
The course is an ideal foundation for those wishing to obtain an industry site card.

Entry requirements
Delegates must be competent in English at operative level. The course content is suited to all ability levels.
Assessment
Assessment will be by multiple-choice question paper at the end of the course. Delegates are also expected to actively participate during the course.
Delegate numbers
The minimum number of delegates per course is three. The maximum number of delegates per course is 20.
Course duration and attendance
This is a one-day course. Delegates are required to complete the full day (7.5 hours) to be eligible for certification.
